Brain Boosting Lions Mane Smoothie

This parasitic fungi has a pretty well established pedigree as both a culinary mushroom and as a functional mushroom. Although used predominantly throughout history to support digestive and immune health, it is its benefits for brain and nervous system function for which it is most prized these days. And they appear to be well warranted.
The fruiting body of lions mane contain phytochemicals called hericinones which may support the production of a molecule made in your central nervous system called nerve growth factor (NGF) . NGF is involved in the development, maintenance and restoration of nervous tissue both in the central and peripheral nervous system. So if we take a wee leap, it seems that Lions Mane may be of benefit for keeping the nervous system and all the things it performs healthy? Studies seem to concur!
This recipe pulls together lions mane with super brain nourishing walnuts, omega rich hemp seed oil, antioxidant and bliss inducing cacao and of course mineral rich spinach. A match made in brainbox heaven.
1 cup almond mylk
1 handful of walnuts
1 tablespoon of chocolate nut butter
1 tablespoon of chia seeds
1 handful of spinach
1 teaspoon of vanilla
1 teaspoon cacao nibs
1 teaspoon of Lions Mane Extract
Sweetener and ice if required
